Summit
FocusDriven held its first Illinois Distracted Driving Summit on April 21, 2011 in Addison, IL. We will soon be posting pictures, videos, and the presentations from the event. If you would like to inquire about holding a summit in your state or have information you would like to contribute please email us at illinois@focusdriven.org.
As you know, distracted driving is an epidemic in the U.S. More than 5,500 people die from distracted driving each year. With April nationally recognized as Distracted Driving Awareness Month we know the time to change drivers’ behaviors is upon us.
We brought together topic experts and issue leaders, including U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, Illinois State Senate President John Cullerton, and Illinois General Assembly Representative John D'Amico who shared what is known about the issue today and identified steps communities can take to keep their roadways safe for tomorrow. We were also honored to have a panel of victims families who shared about their loss of a loved one due to a cell phone distracted driver and how it has affected their family.
Our goal is to provide materials and action items for state-level grassroots efforts that will change behaviors and make our roads safer that we hope to share this with other states so they can begin their own collaborative grassroots efforts.
We strongly believe your participation helped us gather what we need to really make a difference in the lives of thousands of families.
